Description

Never-seen before illustrations and extraordinary magical artefacts combine for a fascinating journey into the history of magic and the creation of Harry Potter. This deluxe volume is the official companion to the 2017 Harry Potter: A History of Magic exhibition, a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration between the British Library, Bloomsbury and J.K. Rowling, marking the 20th anniversary of the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Each chapter covers a different magical subject studied at Hogwarts, from Alchemy and Potions to Astronomy, Defence Against the Dark Arts and more, and features images of amazing magical items including mandrake roots, a real witch’s broomstick and ancient medieval scrolls that reveal the recipe for the elixir of life. Spellbinding specially commissioned essays accompany each section, written by experts and cultural commentators including Owen Davies, Lucy Mangan, Rev. Richard Coles and Tim Peak to name a few. With magical new illustrations by Jim Kay and exclusive manuscripts, sketches and interviews from J.K. Rowling’s archive, this is a treasure trove that will keep Harry Potter fanatics and historians entranced for hours.

256 pages. Hardback book measures 23.5cm x 27.5cm x 2.5cm.
